Hi there. I'm an avid filmmaker, but I've been on a "break" for awhile and I'd like to get back into it. Unfortunately I seem to have a small problem.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

That is my tripod. As you can see the part that connects it to the camera is missing and I need a new one. I'd have simply searched for the part on Google, but I have no idea what it's called. So, here are my two questions:
1. this missing part - what is it called?
2. where can I get a replacement, if I can at all?

Many thanks.

Apr. 8th, 2005 @ 10:56 pm Hello!
Time to be a n00b and bombard you with a couple questions.

Where can I learn more about camcorders, preferably digital?

I'm pretty new about camcorders in general. I'm trying to pick out one for vacation and my range is roughly $500. I plan on using it for general all-range video and "other" things.

Hey how's everyone doing? I have a question. I have this old camcorder. It's not digital and does not have hookups to the computer. I want to be able to edit my movies. What do I need?

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right community to post this in, so if not and someone could point me towards a community more suitable, that'd be great.

I'm looking for a small MiniDV camcorder. I'd like to spend about $350 on it, mainly for stuff with my friends including road trips, crazy stuff we do, snowboarding, mountainboarding, skating, etc. the snowboarding part is a big one, as i'd like something small and durable enough to take on the mountain with me, with a lot of battery life, and if it's possible (although for that price i doubt it is) to put a fisheye lense on. i really don't know a lot about filming and what not, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

someone on the snowboard community recommended a Canon GL2 (before i put a price cap on) and I'd love to get that camera, but i just don't have $2,300 to spend. something that is decent enough to get some good footage of all the stuff a bunch of 19/20/21 y.o. kids do and are into would be excellent.

Feb. 11th, 2005 @ 09:36 pm Question about microphones on older camcorders...
I hope this is the right place to ask this. My brother has an older camcorder. A Hitachi that uses VHS tapes.

Everything on it works wonderfully until you hit "record." Then the microphone goes out and seems to stop receiving sounds. When you watch the video, it sounds like the sound is going in and out. You can catch little things of what we're trying to say if you listen hard enough.

What would cause this? And is this fixable? Everything else works, though. You can see images and everything is clear, so it does record. It's just the sound. We're getting pretty frustrated with it, because this means we can't make our short film we've had in the works for over a year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In november I entered a short 11 minute film into the Sarasota Film Festivals first annual young filmmakers competition. Mainly I entered it because of extra credit in a television production class, but making the movie made me change my views on filmmaking. I can truely say thats what I want to do with my life.

Details about the movie:
It's called Eleven:Eleven. In a nutshell the movie is about a guy who falls inlove with a girl who comes into his jewelery store every day for her 11am break. At the time 11:11 she always says "eleven eleven, make a wish".. they never tell eachother they are in love but eventually the girl gets killed by the guy who robbed the jewelry store owner(i was the robber)

Well I guess you guys are wondering how the movie did, well we got official word that our movie is in the top 10 and will be shown at the main festival in feb. 2005. after all of the top 10 short films are viewed they will be voted on once again. hopefully we get 3rd place or better.

"Eleven:Eleven" - Producer, Editor, and Actor,
Ben Renner

This is about a new group for amateur and indy movie makers in the Austin, Texas area. The thing that I thought would be of interest to this group is their planned monthly Movie Potluck event, which will consist of all interested parties meeting once a month and making a movie in a day. In their own words:

"Starting November 13th we will meet once a month at about 9 am and assess and pool our resources for the day's shoot. No experience is necessary, only a desire to learn. Crewmembers will then have 6-8 hours to produce a short video. At the end of the shoot the crewmembers will edit the footage immediately and become a part of movie-making history!

We will post a list of preferred equipment and resources on this web site, click on the link to the left, before each scheduled shoot date. Then you can send us an email at moviepotluck@yahoo.com to obtain directions to the rally location for each shoot!"

Sep. 23rd, 2004 @ 10:21 am Introducing soundscapes.
soundscapes is a community that specializes in sounds found in nature, in the world around us, and in the electronic realm. Not music, generally, but atmospheric, raw recordings of the world around us. Sounds interesting?! Join the community!

Please feel free to :

- Submit your own recordings of nature, cities, found sounds, sound effects, or samples.

- Point out other interesting websites that feature soundscapes, recordings, or are "soundscape-friendly".

- Ask questions and share advice on how to make better environmental recordings, with discussions on recording media, microphones, and outdoor recording techniques.

Of direct interest to those of you who are filmmakers, I hope to use this community to jumpstart a free online archive of ambient/environmental sounds, ideally hosted on archive.org. This will hopefully give filmmakers, musicians, and others a freely reusable library of sounds they can use for independent projects.

See the soundscapes community for more information.

Sep. 13th, 2004 @ 05:31 pm I'm new, and I don't know what I'm doing...
I have a Canon 600i. I have an s-cable.

Is there any way I can connect my Camcorder to my DVD player, and record some stuff from a dvd. I'm trying to fit some clips into a movie, and it seems the best way to do that would be recording it directly onto the miniDV then messing around.

But I seem to have some problems with getting anything from the two devices. Any help at all would be great.

Hey every body.. i'm new, and joined because i have many questions about certain things. not all i can think of right now but i will in time.

first off: i'm about to embark on makeing a movie, a low budget film, about the life of Elizabeth Bathory. (She was a serial killer in the 1600's that killed 650 young wemon to bath in their blood cause she thought it was the fountain of youth.) And i need enough 'blood' to fill a bath tub. but because i won't be living in my apartment forever i need something that is fairly inexpensive, looks like blood, and won't stain. Any suggestions????????????

2nd: if you have any suggestions about stuff to make sure not to leave out of the movie that took place in her life let me know. i'm open to suggestions.
